Dhaka: Bangladesh is facing severe unrest as student and unemployed youth protests have led to violent incidents. In response, Sheikh Hasina Prime Minister Bangladesh imposes curfew nationwide and deployed the military to control the situation.
The police have struggled to manage the intense protests, resulting in the government calling in the army. So far, 105 people have died during these protests.
In Dhaka alone, 52 people have lost their lives, with most deaths attributed to police shootings.
To manage the crisis and curb the spread of misinformation, the internet has been shut down in Dhaka.
Despite the government’s restrictions, students insist they will continue their protests.
They demand that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina take responsibility for the deaths and resign immediately.
Bangladesh Imposes Curfew: Reason:
This month, students and unemployed youth protested against the quota reservation system in civil service posts, which had been allocated to the children of those who participated in the 1971 Liberation War against Pakistan and other groups.
The student and employee unions argue that the reservation quota disproportionately benefits the children of government-supporting groups, bolstering Prime Minister Hasina’s support base.
