Rawalpindi: Bangladesh cricket players have expressed their support for Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently facing murder allegations linked to the unrest that recently led to the fall of the government.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto stated that the team’s first-ever Test victory against Pakistan was dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives during the protests that forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to flee the country.

Shanto emphasized that Shakib, who lost his position as a lawmaker after the dissolution of parliament, is a significant asset to the nation.

Shanto also noted that Shakib has been elevating Bangladesh’s reputation on the global stage for the past 17 years.

Shakib Case Details:

The case against him was filed by Rafiqul Islam, the father of one of the many victims of the civil unrest.

Along with Shakib, 155 others have been named in the case, including former ministers and other ex-lawmakers from Hasina’s administration, which has faced accusations of widespread human rights abuses.

He has not yet publicly responded to the allegations, but his teammates have voiced their unwavering support for him.

Shanto expressed hope that the country will soon move past this dark period and embrace a brighter future.

Veteran cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim also shared his thoughts, stating that he is proud to play alongside the accused and will continue to stand by him during these challenging times.

Bangladesh recently secured a resounding 10-wicket victory over Pakistan in Rawalpindi, marking their first win against them in Test cricket. The second Test match is scheduled to begin on Friday in Rawalpindi.
