New York: In New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday.
This marked their second meeting in about a month. On August 23, PM Modi visited Ukraine and reiterated India’s commitment to supporting all efforts that would help bring about an early return to peace in the Ukraine conflict.
This visit was at the invitation of President Zelenskyy and was the first time an Indian Prime Minister had visited Ukraine since diplomatic relations were established between the two nations in 1992.
Following the visit, a joint statement was released, where both leaders expressed a mutual interest in enhancing their bilateral relations from a comprehensive to a strategic partnership in the future.
They reaffirmed their dedication to further strengthening ties, based on mutual trust, respect, and transparency, for the benefit of both nations’ citizens.
The statement also emphasized that both PM Modi and President Zelenskyy expressed their commitment to cooperating on key principles of international law, including the UN Charter, particularly regarding the respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of nations.
The two leaders agreed on the importance of continued dialogue on these matters.
