Lebanon: The Israel Hezbollah ceasefire came under pressure on Saturday after Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks hit southern Lebanon, killing at least five people just hours after the truce agreement came into effect, according to Lebanese state media reports.
The latest attacks have raised fresh concerns over the ongoing Israel Lebanon conflict, despite international efforts to reduce tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
Lebanon’s state news agency reported that Israeli warplanes and drones targeted several areas across Nabatieh overnight and on Saturday morning. The Lebanon air strikes reportedly damaged residential buildings and homes, while artillery shelling was also reported in nearby areas before dawn.
The Israel Hezbollah ceasefire agreement was reached on Friday following a rise in cross-border hostilities. Officials familiar with the development confirmed that the truce was scheduled to begin at 4 PM local time.
However, the latest Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have created uncertainty over the stability of the ceasefire, as global attention remains focused on the escalating Middle East conflict.
