Adelaide: Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj faced a 20% match fee penalty, while Australian batter Travis Head received a warning from the ICC for engaging in a verbal altercation during the day-night Test in Adelaide.
Both players were found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
Siraj was charged under Article 2.5, which pertains to gestures or language that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.
In contrast, Head was charged under Article 2.13, which deals with abusive behavior towards players or match officials.
Although Siraj was fined, Head escaped monetary penalties but received an official sanction.
Both players accepted the charges and the sanctions proposed by Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle.
Additionally, they each received one demerit point on their disciplinary records, marking their first offenses in the last two years.
The incident occurred during the second day of the Test, which Australia eventually won by 10 wickets.
After dismissing Head, Siraj celebrated animatedly, which led to a heated exchange between the two.
The Adelaide crowd jeered Siraj, and both players later provided conflicting accounts of the incident.
Head claimed he had praised Siraj by saying “well bowled,” while Siraj accused Head of using abusive language.
Despite the controversy, both teams remain focused on the ongoing five-match series, which is currently tied 1-1.
