Dubai: 2024 Women T20 World Cup: New Zealand secured a comprehensive 58-run victory against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Initially, the New Zealand team opted to bat first. Their innings was dominated by captain Sophie Devine, who played an impressive knock of 57 runs off 36 balls.
She lead the team to a solid total of 160 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs.
Despite the challenging target, Indian bowler Renuka Thakur Singh delivered a commendable performance, taking 2 wickets for 27 runs.
However, in response, India struggled to build momentum. The New Zealand bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, putting the Indian batters under pressure.
Consequently, India’s batting lineup collapsed, and they were all out for just 102 runs in 19 overs.
Rosemary Mair stood out with an outstanding bowling spell, picking up 4 wickets for 19 runs, ultimately sealing the game for New Zealand.
Overall, New Zealand’s balanced performance with both bat and ball ensured a decisive win over India, setting a strong tone for the series ahead.
India will play their next match with Pakistan on October 6th in Dubai starting the play at 3 PM IST.
