Melbourne: India wrapped up Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test against Australia at 164/5, trailing by 310 runs.
India suffered a collapse in the final session, losing three crucial wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal (82) and Virat Kohli (36) built a solid 102-run partnership for the third wicket.
However, a disastrous mix-up led to Jaiswal’s run-out, followed shortly by Kohli’s dismissal off Scott Boland’s bowling.
Boland struck again, removing night-watchman Akash Deep for a duck.
Earlier, India lost KL Rahul (5) just before the Tea break, leaving the team struggling at 51/2.
Rohit Sharma, who promoted himself to open the innings, managed only 3 runs before throwing his wicket away.
In their first innings, Australia posted a formidable 474 runs.
Steve Smith led the charge with his 34th Test century, guiding the team to add 143 runs in just 27 overs during the morning session.
